"Not just for artists": Gabriola's Thanksgiving Studio Tour Provides its Annual Creative and Economic Boost to Island

Life on Gabriola TV drops in on some of the artists whose talent and work once again helped make the annual Thanksgiving Studio Tour on the island a success. Volunteer videographer Luis Ramentas visits on location with artists Tammy Hudgeon, Kathy Dennison, Denise Carson Wilde, Karen Haugen, and Patricia Rokosh and interviews them about the importance of the tour to their livelihoods and having their work seen. As Wilde puts it, "The artist absolutely, definitely needs to have an audience."

And as Hudgeon adds, "It's important for the whole island economy, for sure. Not just for artists, but for everyone else who's doing any kind of business on the island. Any lodging place. They're almost always all booked up. Restaurants are always full.

"I would imagine that even the grocery store and places like that, because people are buying picnics, to go to the beach."

Luis also drops in on the tour preview at Nova Boutique and Gallery, as well as the Rob Robinson Studio and Warren Fullerton's "Bailey and I" gallery.

Highlights:

🎨 The tour featured close to 60 artist studios, offering a wide array of artistic creations, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, metalwork, and more.
🌆 The Gabriola Arts Council plays a crucial role in organizing and marketing the event, ensuring artists gain exposure and recognition beyond the island, reaching art lovers and collectors throughout British Columbia.
🏡 For the artists, the tour provides a chance to showcase their work, conduct business, and increase their name recognition. It's both personally fulfilling and financially beneficial.
💸 Artists are mindful of affordability and one is experimenting with pay-what-you-can pricing for her creations, making art more accessible to a wider audience.
