In the wake of rising racial tensions during the Covid-19 pandemic, Gina Chong emerged as a catalyst for change, driven by a passion to foster unity and celebrate diversity.  She founded the Tri-Cities Asian Art & Culture Society and she became the visionary behind the Dumplings Festival. The inception of the Tri-Cities Asian Art & Culture Society was created in response to a disturbing incident in May 2021. A video circulating media channels depicted a racially motivated incident targeting Asians. In response, Chong felt compelled to establish a platform that not only countered stereotypes but also celebrated the rich tapestry of Asian culture. This commitment materialized in the form of her society that provided a space for artistic expression and cultural exchange.

Her transformative journey continued with her photography project and the inaugural Dumplings Festival in May 2022. A culinary delight, the festival showcased the cultural significance of dumplings, attracting a diverse audience. However, the overwhelming success came with a challenge – vendors running out of dumplings, a testament to the festival's popularity and the power of shared experiences.
