The Arena Pitch Competition: Empowering Community of Student Entrepreneurs
Halifax's Arthur L Irvin Entrepreneurship Center is hosting the Arena Pitch Competition, offering a $10,000 grand prize to be awarded to the best student led entrepreneurial pitch.
Kritika Gurung, the Project Coordinator at the Arthur L Irvin Entrepreneurship Center, emphasizes the crucial role of community building, highlighting its impact on fostering innovation, collaboration, and sustained success. She stresses how the competition not only refines students' presentation skills but also forges lasting connections among participants. The competition's emphasis on concise pitches not only readies participants for the competitive arena but also cultivates a community of mutual support and encouragement.
Gurung says the $10,000 grand prize, also has a broader impact on the local entrepreneurial community. Beyond providing financial assistance to individual ventures, the prize contributes to the growth of a financial community. Successful entrepreneurs reinvest in the community through hiring, marketing, and technological advancements, creating a cycle of support.
The inclusive nature of the application process aims to create a diverse community of entrepreneurs from various backgrounds, says Gurung. The revamped selection process, incorporating a one-minute video pitch, ensures authenticity and brings out unique personalities that enrich the entrepreneurial community's tapestry.
By sharing authentic stories and experiences, entrepreneurs contribute to the creation of a community where each member's uniqueness adds value and resonates with a wider audience, says Gurung.
Looking toward the future, Gurung hopes to evolve the Arena Pitch Competition into a hub for entrepreneurship for the global community. The goal is not only to showcase local talent but to connect with communities worldwide, creating an international network of incubators, centers, and universities that collectively support and uplift student entrepreneurs.
