The Indian community is the fastest-growing ethnic and racial group in Barrie, and recently, issues related to the Indian community have started appearing in Barrie City Council discussions. However, there is no representative from the Indian community on the council, and we are here to bring you all the news related to the Indian community.

During the Finance Committee meeting, Ward 3 Councillor Ann-Marie Kungl proposed a motion to conduct public consultation regarding fireworks restrictions in residential areas. This proposal seems to have originated due to a recent increase in noise complaints and other issues during Diwali. Councillors from Wards 1, 2, and 3 have received the maximum number of complaints, and these wards have the highest concentration of Indian residents.

Ward 1 Councillor Clare Riepma mentioned that he receives a significant number of complaints during Diwali.

If the council approved the public consultation on February 28, Barrie residents would be asked the following questions.
