February is celebrated as Black History Month in Canada. Various events are being organized in the city of Barrie and Simcoe County. These events honour the rich history, culture, and contributions of the Black community.

One of the key events is the staging of 'Lost Heroes of Oro' at the Georgian Theatre on February 23 and 24. This play, penned and directed by Alinka Angelova, delves into the life of a Black Canadian hero, chronicling an escape from slavery via the Underground Railroad and the establishment of a church. Angelova's work is notable for its unique approach to storytelling, casting, and direction.

However, the focus is not only on celebrating but also on promoting understanding and integration among various cultural groups in Canada. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of minority communities. It is particularly important for recent Indian immigrants to become familiar with the stories and achievements of other minorities. Such knowledge is helpful in promoting the integration process in Canada.

Simcoe Community Media has adopted a proactive approach by establishing dialogue with leaders and artists from the local African-Canadian community. We spoke with Alinka Angelova, a Barrie based Black-Canadian writer and director.

Angelova is not only interested in African-Canadian culture but also has an interest in Indian culture. She expressed her interest in writing a Bollywood musical drama. We have offered her support in this endeavor, and we are excited to assist with this project.

कनाडामें फरवरी ब्लैक हिस्ट्री माह के रूप में मनाया जाता हे। इस अवसर पर बैरी शहर और सिमको काउंटी में विभिन्न कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन किया जा रहा हैं। जो अफ्रीकी-कनाडाई समुदाय के समृद्ध इतिहास, संस्कृति और योगदान को सम्मानित करते हैं। 

हालाकी ध्यान केवल उत्सव मनाने पर ही नहीं बल्कि कनाडा में विभिन्न सांस्कृतिक समूहों के बीच समझ और एकीकरण को बढ़ावा देने पर भी है। विशेष रूप से,- अल्पसंख्यक समुदायों के - महत्व पर - जोर दिया जाता है। खासकर हाल ही में आए भारतीय आप्रवासियों को, अन्य अल्पसंख्यकों की कहानियों और उपलब्धियों से परिचित होना महत्वपूर्ण हे। ऐसा ज्ञान कनाडा में एकीकरण प्रक्रिया को बढ़ावा देने में सहायक है। 

सिमको कम्युनिटी मीडिया ने स्थानीय अफ्रीकी-कनाडाई समुदाय के नेताओं और कलाकारों के साथ संवाद स्थापित करके एक सक्रिय दृष्टिकोण अपनाया है। हमने बैरी अफ्रीकी-कनाडाई लेखक और निर्देशक अलिंका एंजेलोवा से बात की। 

एंजेलोवा को सिर्फ़ अफ्रीकी-कनाडाई संस्कृति में ही दिलचिस्पी नहीं हे बल की भारतीय संस्कृति में भी रस हे। उन्होंने हमें बॉलीवुड संगीत नाटक लिखने की रुचि जताई। हमने उने इस उपक्रम में सहयोग देनेका प्रस्ताव दिया हे। और हम इस परियोजना में उनका सहयोग करने के उत्साहित हैं।
