The City of Toronto has embarked on a mission to refresh the Social Development Plan (SDP) in Regent Park, seeking active participation from community members to shape the neighborhood's sustainable growth and enhancement.
As the neighborhood undergoes a transformative shift from an entirely social housing community to a mixed-income one, the SDP refresh consultations aim to uphold the vision of social inclusion and cohesion. These consultations will inform recommendations for an updated plan, ensuring that the benefits of revitalization extend to all residents.
Residents from diverse backgrounds are being encouraged to contribute their insights, suggestions, and priorities, recognizing their invaluable expertise in shaping the future of their community.
Four major areas of focus have emerged from resident expertise: Safety, Employment & Economic Development, Community-Building, and Communication. These pillars are vital for fostering social cohesion and inclusion in the evolving landscape of Regent Park.
To ensure inclusivity and representation, the City has launched an SDP survey for residents to voice their needs and aspirations. This participatory approach aims to create a plan that reflects the diverse lived experiences and perspectives within Regent Park.
The consultation process will feature six sessions, each with a focus on engaging various segments of the population residing in and supporting Regent Park.
Through active engagement and collaboration, the refreshed SDP will serve as a blueprint for sustainable development, fostering a sense of belonging and opportunity for all members of the Regent Park community. By prioritizing resident input, the City endeavors to build a stronger, more resilient neighborhood that thrives on inclusivity and collective well-being.
