During a recent Innisfil City Council meeting, Sebastian Corbo and his family were given a chance to respond to a staff report concerning their request for support of their application to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. The Corbo family seeks a permit to take water for groundwater withdrawals from their site for bottled water production.

The Corbos' request is to allow a maximum of 400,000 litres of water per day to be removed, which aligns with the limit for commercial water restriction. This substantial amount is aimed at facilitating their bottled water production, a venture that requires significant resources.

The Corbos originally presented their request during a May 22 council meeting and have been awaiting the staff report since then. The period of anticipation and uncertainty has been marked by their preparation to comply with any regulatory requirements set forth by the local authorities.

The recently concluded staff report determined that the applicant must be informed that an Official Plan Amendment and a Zoning By-law Amendment are prerequisites for any commercial water-taking operations. These amendments must be submitted to the town for consideration. Only after these procedural steps have been completed will a letter to the Ministry of Environment and Conservation be drafted, as per the Corbos' request. This process ensures that all regulatory frameworks are adhered to before moving forward with the water-taking operations.
