This week's council meeting featured a special presentation. After the meeting was called to order and the land acknowledgement was read, additional agenda items were introduced and the previous meeting's minutes were approved. 

The first major item was a presentation from Superior Country about the upcoming arrival of cruise ships in Terrace Bay. Susan Kukko, North Shore Tourism Coordinator and Nipigon's Mayor, explained the benefits and plans for the community. Terrace Bay has been preparing for this expansion with new waterfront developments like the pavilion and boardwalk.

CAO John Hall presented updates to the animal control bylaw, addressing current issues and new restrictions on keeping "farm" animals. Councillor Dube questioned the licensing aspects of the bylaw. 

The fire marshal agreement and associated fees for firefighting responses were discussed but need further deliberation. Changes to the Labour Action Centre, established after the mill closure, were also reviewed to better serve users' needs.

CFO Mulligan presented the interim budget variance report, updating the council on current finances. Discussions included reactivating an ATM left behind after the bank closure, and providing residents with additional banking options.

New curbside collection services starting in July will offer free recycled goods collection by a specialized independent operator. A strategic plan creation agreement was presented, with funding application in progress.

All bylaws from this meeting were adopted. Danny Mulligan's appointment to the Sports Hall of Fame Committee was approved. An update on the mill's status was provided, dismissing unsubstantiated rumours of a potential buyer.

The council will continue investigating the potential hazards of transporting nuclear waste through the region. With no questions during the question period, the meeting moved in camera to discuss confidential matters.
