On Tuesday, September 10 MLA for Coquitlam - Maillardville, Selina Robinson, on behalf of Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, presented a King Charles III Coronation Medal to Coquitlam resident Dave Allan Blatherwick. The medal was presented to Mr. Blatherwick in front of a packed house at Selina's Constituancy office. 

Mr. Blatherwick was awarded for his dedication to coaching boys' and girls' lacrosse and hockey teams. He has also volunteered as a referee for hockey and basketball. As a grade eight teacher, Mr. Blatherwick organized all the track meets for the New Westminster and Burnaby School Boards and the zone track meet, which included Coquitlam.

Due to COVID-19 in 2000, graduating students lost the chance to compete in track. To prevent a repeat in 2001, Mr. Blatherwick organized individual school track meets and gathered the data in order to declare zone winners. All told he has gone above and beyond the call of duty by volunteering hundreds of hours to ensure student athletes could once again compete and be recognized for their accomplishments.

MLA Selina Robinson herself was also awarded a King Charles III Coronation Medal by Coquitlam Councillor Matt Djonlic who cited not only her work as an MLA for Coquitlam-Maillardville and city councillor for the City of Coquitlam, but also her work to battle cancer and for being a voice for the Jewish community in these troubled times.

The medal program was first announced three days before the Coronation of King Charles III, on 3 May 2023, by the Prime Minister.
