Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council Offers Bursaries to Students

The month of October offers plenty of opportunities for Region 7 citizens to connect with their culture and engage with the community.

For those in the Moonriver catchment area who missed the events on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Parry Sound Native Friendship Centre will be holding its NDTR activities on October 1st, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This family-friendly event will feature various activities aimed at reflecting on the significance of the day and deepening cultural connections.

The Barrie South Simcoe Métis Council is currently seeking post-secondary students in need of support with education costs. Citizens in the Barrie catchment area have until October 9th to apply for a post-secondary bursary. To be eligible, applicants must reside in the Barrie area and be enrolled in a post-secondary institution.

On October 19th, the Great Lakes Métis Council will host a community engagement session with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a dinner and listen to a presentation on the transportation of spent nuclear fuel for the potential Deep Geological Repository in South Bruce.

The Barrie South Simcoe Métis Council’s Annual General Meeting will be held on October 20th, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Citizens of the Barrie catchment area will receive updates on the council’s activities over the past year. Local Métis vendors will also be present, offering goods for purchase during the meeting.

To wrap up the month, the Barrie South Simcoe Métis Council will open its doors to trick-or-treaters on October 27th, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., handing out treats to citizens in the Barrie area.
