This November offers multiple opportunities for Métis citizens in Region 7 to connect with their culture.

The Georgian Bay Métis Council will host its Annual General Meeting on November 10th from 4 PM to 5 PM, followed by a potluck game dinner. Before the meeting, citizens are invited to a kitchen party at 1 PM, featuring jiggers, fiddlers, and beaders sharing their cultural talents.

The Barrie South Simcoe Métis Council will host a beaded earring workshop on the same day, November 10th. The morning session will be for beginners, with advanced beaders taking over in the afternoon.

On November 13th, local advocacy groups Ryan’s Hope, Moms Stop the Harm, and the Barrie Encampment Support Network will hold a Solidarity SleepOut at Barrie City Hall. The event begins at 9 PM after a silent protest at the City Council meeting at 7 PM. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tents and sleeping bags.

November 16th marks Louis Riel Day. To celebrate, the Métis Nation of Ontario is hosting a virtual pancake dinner and storytelling gathering on Zoom, inviting citizens to join in the festivities.

Later in the month, on November 24th, the Barrie South Simcoe Métis Council will hold a drum-making workshop for citizens who haven’t previously attended one with the council.
