Regent Park Social Development Plan Committee Reflects on Community Engagement

On December 5, 2024, the Regent Park Social Development Plan (SDP) Planning Committee conducted a reflective evaluation of its recent Stakeholders Table meeting using the "Roses, Thorns, and Buds" feedback approach. This method, highlighting strengths (roses), challenges (thorns), and opportunities for improvement (buds), helped the committee assess the event’s impact and plan for enhanced community engagement moving forward.

Highlights of the Stakeholders Table Meeting

Held on November 27 at the UN Urban Pavilion, the Stakeholders Table meeting provided a platform for Regent Park residents and community members to review progress on the SDP and contribute to shaping the neighbourhood’s redevelopment. The session fostered dialogue, transparency, and active resident involvement.

Roses:

• Transparency and Openness: Attendees appreciated the clear communication and opportunities to voice their perspectives, which strengthened trust and inclusivity in the decision-making process.
• Resident Engagement: Many participants felt empowered to contribute meaningfully to discussions about Regent Park's redevelopment plans.

Thorns:

• Logistical Concerns: The arrangement of childminding services on the same floor as the meeting posed challenges, particularly in comparison to previous events at Daniels Spectrum, which offered more suitable facilities.
• Venue Flow: Feedback suggested that the setup could be adjusted to better accommodate participant needs and enhance the overall experience.

Buds:

• Expanding Outreach: The committee recognized the need for broader community participation, suggesting increased promotional efforts to reach more residents.
• Enhanced Discussion Formats: Suggestions included refining the meeting structure to allow for a deeper exploration of key issues and more focused conversations.
