Guiding Families: The Vital Role of West Coast Family Navigators

At the heart of this work is the role of the Family Navigators a bridge between families and essential support systems. Shawna explains that many parents struggle to access services due to financial hardship, language barriers, or a lack of awareness. As a Navigator, her mission is to guide families toward the right support, whether it is counseling, parenting workshops, or early childhood development resources. While West Coast Family does not provide direct access to child care, they help families navigate the system and find the resources they need.

Genevieve Kyle-Lefebvre – Local Journalism Initiative

West Coast Family serves a diverse range of families, ensuring that no one is left behind. Their programs focus on parent education, emotional and social development for children, and strengthening family relationships. Whether a parent is seeking support for mental health, struggling with isolation, or looking for strategies to support their childrens development, the organization offers a safe and welcoming space to find help.

Beyond individual support, West Coast Family plays a vital role in building a stronger community. By partnering with schools, local organizations, and volunteers, they extend their reach and create a lasting impact. Shawna shares a story of a parent who, through their programs, gained confidence, found a support network, and learned new skills to better support their children transforming their daily life.

Like many non-profits, West Coast Family faces challenges, including funding limitations and increasing demand for services. Volunteers and donations are essential in keeping these programs running. Upcoming events, such as community workshops and fundraisers, offer opportunities for people to get involved and contribute to their mission.

Looking ahead, Shawna hopes to expand the reach of West Coast Family, ensuring more families can access the support they need. "Every family deserves to feel supported and connected", she says. "With the right resources, we can empower parents and help children grow in a strong, nurturing environment."

For those looking to make a difference, West Coast Family welcomes volunteers, donations and community partnerships.
