On today’s episode of Face to Face, I sit down with Meghan Simington and Jessica Davidson to discuss Safe Street Tri-Cities, a community-driven organization dedicated to making the region safer for everyone.

Founded on the belief that safety is a shared responsibility, Safe Street Tri-Cities brings together residents, elected officials, community leaders, and law enforcement to address crime, public safety concerns, and overall well-being. Meghan and Jessica, both deeply committed to their mission, share insights into their work and the challenges they are striving to overcome.

A Grassroots Approach to Public Safety

Safe Street Tri-Cities was born out of a growing need for community-led safety initiatives.

“I moved from North Vancouver to Port Coquitlam with my two pre-teens, and I want a safe community for them. If something happens, I want to make sure it gets reported and that they will be safe,” says Meghan.

Since its founding, the organization has launched various initiatives, including town hall meetings to promote safety awareness and reduce public disorder.

One of their biggest challenges is addressing the root causes of crime while fostering a sense of belonging.

“It’s not just about reacting to issues; it’s about prevention and education,” Jessica explains.

Through community workshops and youth engagement programs, Safe Street Tri-Cities promotes proactive safety measures that make a lasting impact.

Tangible Results & Ongoing Efforts

Their efforts are already yielding positive results. A recent collaboration with local leaders has helped improve security measures in high-risk areas.

“Seeing tangible results—reduced incidents, increased community engagement—makes all the hard work worth it,” Meghan adds.

Safe Street Tri-Cities has been actively working with the cities of Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam to strengthen community safety. However, Meghan and Jessica emphasize the need for broader municipal support.

“Sadly, the City of Port Moody hasn’t been part of the equation. We need them to get on board to make a difference,” they stress.

Looking Ahead to 2025

The organization is preparing for several major initiatives in 2025, including:

• Expanded outreach programs
• A city-wide safety campaign

They encourage residents to get involved—whether through volunteering, attending events, or staying informed about best safety practices.

Their vision is a Tri-Cities region where people not only feel safe but take an active role in creating that safety.
