In my interview with Wilhelmina Martin, a dedicated community leader and President of Dogwood Seniors, we discussed key issues impacting Coquitlam, including dog parks, city development, and transportation.

Wilhelmina says she has been volunteering since her early teens, having started as a "candy-striper" back in the day. She also credits being involved in strata housing as a means of getting more involved it what was happening in the community around her. This experience, she says, cemented her belief that if you want to understand what's really going on in your community you should find a way to volunteer some time back to the community.

Wilhelmina spoke passionately about the need for more well-maintained and accessible dog parks throughout Coquitlam, highlighting their importance for both pet owners and the overall well-being of the community. She emphasized the role these spaces play in fostering social connections and creating a more pet-friendly city.

Regarding city development, Wilhelmina shared insights on how Coquitlam is evolving and the challenges that have come with rapid urbanization. She stressed the importance of preserving community spaces while balancing growth and infrastructure expansion.

We also delved into transportation concerns, particularly for seniors and those with mobility challenges. Wilhelmina advocated for better transit accessibility, improved pedestrian-friendly areas, and safer infrastructure to ensure everyone can navigate the city with ease.
