Artist calls for fightback against misogyny with new exhibit in Moncton

Moncton-based artist Lila Donovan Kelly is calling for people to fight back against misogyny. Her new exhibit, titled “We Are Not Going Back” opened at the Moncton Public Library on March 8, International Women’s Day.

She spoke to the NB Media Co-op about her multimedia artwork, which features prose-poetry, collage and photography, describing it as a response to a rising tide of toxic masculinity. 

"It's an art exhibit that addresses the anger and frustration women have towards a misogynistic, patriarchal, industrial systems that are killing women, girls, gender-diverse people, and the planet," she said. 

"Using poetry prose and images, I reveal the abuse, the violence, the programming, and the need for courage to go forward in community with other women, gender-diverse and conscious men, to dream and build a better and healthier world."

She launched the exhibit on International Women's Day. The exhibit continues until the end of March.
