Climate Conversations - Green Peace (Episode10)
By Lawrence Rodrigues
Lawrence is student journalist with FOCUS MEDIA ARTS CENTRE
In Radio Regent's Climate Conversations episode 10, Allanis Inguillo interviews climate activist Tara Seucharan. Tara Seucharan is a climate activist in Toronto who works for Greenpeace Canada as a mobilization campaigner. A mobilization campaigner gathers volunteers, supporters and the public to get involved with their projects. In this interview, Tara Seucharan is asked various questions about the environment such as what she does, how climate change affects people, and how people can personally take action.
With Greenpeace Canada, Tara Seucharan is currently working on the fossil banks campaign. The fossil banks campaign reports that the five major banks in Canada — BMO, CIBC, TD, RBC and Scotiabank — are within the top global banks that are financing fossil fuels. Fossil fuels produces about 84% of the world's energy needs, however it emits a large amount carbon dioxide — a greenhouse gas that traps heat — into the atmosphere.
Greenpeace is an international organization that stands with local communities to hold governments and corporations accountable. Greenpeace Canada is a non-profit organization with offices located in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. Greenpeace gets its funding through donations made by individuals or grants from foundations. Greenpeace has also stated that they do not accept funding from corporations or the government to preserve their independence. In this interview, Tara Seucharan explains how people can get involved in climate action. She encourages people to head to Greenpeace Canada's website (provided below) to see how people like you can contribute against the climate crisis in volunteer opportunities: https://www.greenpeace.org/canada/en/
