Last March 22, 2024, A Gallery of Canadian Mennonite University (MHC) and Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) collaborated to present 'Watersource / Lifesource,' a profound event aimed at celebrating World Water Day and fostering awareness within the Winnipeg community about the importance of water.

This event wasn't just a celebration—it was a platform for education, support, and enlightenment. Attendees were invited to explore the mysteries of water and air, sharing experiences and insights to deepen their understanding of these vital elements.

Sarah Hodges-Kolisnyk, Director of the Canadian Mennonite University Gallery (MHC) explained the importance of people understanding water source. She says that we are hosting a roundtable conversation in honour of World Water Day called Water Source, and why we think that it is important for our lives.

“Our speakers today will lead us through the way that is so important to all our different ways of knowing in Winnipeg, in Canada, and around the world. They are going to talk about water in many different ways. for example, faith, indigenous communities, and different land relationships between the land and the water. It is a passion for being out in environments that are influenced by the water.”

Through interactive exhibits, engaging discussions, and hands-on activities, 'Watersource / Lifesource' provided a space for community members to come together and learn about the significance of water in our lives. From its role in sustaining ecosystems to its impact on human health and well-being, the event shed light on the multifaceted nature of water and the need for its conservation.

The impact of 'Watersource / Lifesource' on the communities in Winnipeg was profound. It sparked conversations, inspired action, and raised awareness about the importance of preserving our water resources for future generations. By bringing people together to explore the interconnectedness of water and life, the event fostered a sense of stewardship and responsibility within the community.

As we reflect on the significance of World Water Day and the impact of 'Watersource / Lifesource,' we are reminded of the importance of coming together as a community to protect and cherish our most precious resource—water.
