Region 7 Celebrates Metis Community Ahead of AGA

With the 31st Annual General Assembly for the Metis Nation of Ontario approaching in Region 7, Simcoe Community Media takes a moment to reflect on and celebrate the incredible moments we’ve captured over the past six months.

Metis Minute was there to honor our artists during Kooshkopayiw’s art crawl stop in Gravenhurst, as well as the current exhibit of the Gifts of Georgian Bay at the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum.

For those interested in meeting some of the talented artists in our community, the Kooshkopayiw exhibit will be featured at the AGA from August 16th to 18th.

Last month, Simcoe Community Media handed our cameras over to the youth at the Barrie South Simcoe Metis Council’s Youth Camp in Port Severn. We are also excited to announce that SCM will be hosting another workshop for citizens on August 24th from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Barrie council office.

We also celebrated the 20th Annual Great Lakes Metis Fish Fry, which has been officially renamed The Coture Family Fish Fry in honor of former GLMC President Pete Coture. Coture continues to work on a plaque for the Hibou Conservation Area to acknowledge the Metis families who once lived there and were displaced.

Simcoe Community Media extends our congratulations to the newly elected Region 7 PCMNO Representative, Greg Garratt. Citizens eligible to vote in the Women’s Council Election are encouraged to cast their votes between August 7th and 14th.

The 31st Annual General Assembly will take place from August 15th to 18th at Penetanguishene’s Discovery Harbour.
