Charlotte County will be seeing more services offered by the YMCA in the region in just a matter of weeks.

At a recent council meeting for the Village of Blacks Harbour, council unanimously agreed to table a motion regarding a proposal from the YMCA for the region to allow for further discussion before more decisions are made. 

"We're getting very close to coming to an agreement," said Councillor Jordan Thompson, enthusiastically. "But it's just there are a few outstanding questions we need answers to before we can proceed. That said, we are really excited about the opportunity to have the YMCA in this region. So, what I can say at this moment is 'stay tuned.'"

How exactly the YMCA will expand its offerings in Blacks Harbour area remains to be seen but will likely take fruition in the coming weeks. YMCA Chief Executive Officer Shilo Boucher is excited to start expanding childcare and recreational offerings in eastern Charlotte County. The YMCA is currently in the process of looking to hire a manager of community and program development for eastern Charlotte County. This notably comes at a time when the federal government has promised to make $10 a day childcare a reality for all Canadian families. 

The YMCA already has a well-established presence in the neighbouring Town of St. George, but seeing the Y's programs and offerings expand to more rural towns and villages in Charlotte County is a welcome addition for many southwest New Brunswick families looking for more childcare and recreational services and programs.
