Fundy Middle and High School in the Village of Blacks Harbour is currently creating a new room in the school that will be known as the "maker space." The "maker space" will be a dedicated room to learning and innovation meant to increase student engagement with education by giving them an exclusive area to explore their interests, from hobbies to potential career paths. 
The school hopes to transform what is currently the science lab in the middle school into a functional and up-to-date collaborative work space for students and teachers to share, learn and explore ideas using high tech and low tech learning aids. They hope to equip the room with everything from editing software and computers to sewing machines and sketching materials to suit all student projects and aspirational needs. 

The school and students have reached out to village council to ask for a donation towards the transformation project of the science lab. The school is currently holding an auction with the hopes of raising $5000 to make the renovations possible. At a recent Village of Blacks Harbour Council Meeting, Mayor John Craig read aloud a letter from the school addressed to council asking for anything the village council deemed fit to donate for auction.

Councillor Adam Hatt motioned that council donate two ice times at the local arena for the auction. The motion was passed unanimously with Councillor Ashley Ritchie suggesting that all of the councillors make a point of sharing about the auction on their social media to encourage other people in the community to donate items for the auction to help make the school's dream a reality.
