What attracts Brazilians to Winnipeg and how they adapt to a new life
The Brazilian community in Winnipeg has grown significantly in the last 10 years. It’s estimated that there are more than 5,000 Brazilians living in the capital of the province of Manitoba. What is the main reason that attracts Brazilians to Winnipeg? What challenges do Brazilian newcomers face in Canada?
Maggie Diniz-Demarky, the President of Brazilian Association in Winnipeg (BRAZIW) will answer this and other issues during the interview discussion.
BRAZIW is the voice of Canada’s Brazilian community. The main mission is to unite all Brazilian Canadians, promote Brazilian culture, and preserve their cultural identity.
Despite the cold winter, Brizilians like Manitoba for its sunny and blue sky, but this is not the main attraction for most people. Сanada has a stable job market, the economy in Manitoba is diversified which makes it easy to find a job. Another reason is cultural diversity which makes Brazilians feel at home. The last one reason why people come to Canada which Maggie wanted to add is safety.
Moving to another country is a huge challenge for newcomers and first months looks like surviving, that’s why BRAZIW trying to make events to connect brazilian community together, to go through challenges. Maggie Diniz-Demarky says that networking is one of the most useful means to gain knowledge, find a job and easily adapt to a new life.
