More Than 21,000 Meals a Month: Community Helpers Unite Provides Free Meals for Those Who Need Them

More than 21000 meals a month: Community Helpers Unite provides free meals for those who need them.

In this episode, Brandy Bobier, Founder of Community Helpers Unite, explains the importance of feeding people. Even though volunteering gives her a lot of positive emotions, she also shared stories when they faced negativity. “People judge CHU because we provide food for people who face addiction or are homeless. But I strongly believe they deserve the same food as everybody else. They deserve a delicious, good meal that is made with love,”- says Bobier.

Bobier recommends everyone to volunteer somewhere doing something because it is active gratitude. She believes that volunteering is a way where everybody can feed their soul. If you do something for free to help somebody else and don’t expect to get something in return then this will get back to you tenfold.

Bobier is very dedicated to her work, but there is still a tough aspect of volunteering. One of the toughest things is that they are dealing with a lot of emotions, and heaviness. They often see people who are under stress, under depression, who are feeling as low as possible get it. So her advice is to push it in the back of her mind and focus on sharing love, and empathy. Another thing they are faced with is fighting in the street. It is always off-putting to see fights while you are volunteering.

The CHU helps prevent not only hunger but also unemployment. Brandy tells us about volunteer opportunities their organization gives to those youth who struggle with unemployment. Due to this, people can gain experience and get a job.
Lots of students put volunteer experience in their resume and got a job.

Bobier shares with us their plans as well. She mentioned they are currently working on building the kitchen for cooking classes. Age doesn’t matter, sex doesn’t matter, and everyone can take part in that cooking classes and learn how to cook delicious food full of nutrients.

All things considered, we can see that Community Center Unite is operating on the “yes model”. They give people food, offer skills, resources and offer employment or volunteer opportunities.
