Mental Health And Wellness Awareness for Winnipeg Seniors by Manitoba Islamic Association

When you get older, many health challenges appear, the body weakens, movement slows down, and the elderly tend to isolate themselves and stay away from any noise. Which causes the elderly psychological and mental challenges such as depression, anxiety and loneliness. Here we find that the community in Winnipeg is addressing these challenges by holding awareness lectures for the elderly so that they can enjoy their lives during this period that awaits us all.

Mental Health & Wellness for Seniors is a series of lectures organized by Manitoba Islamic Association (MIA) every Saturday for two months in a row with the aim of educating the elderly in Winnipeg about mental health and how to deal with changes during this period of their lives.

In this episode of Civic Platform, Dr. Natasha M. Ali, Registered Psychologist, Winnipeg talks about the importance of the elderly in Winnipeg obtaining information about mental health in order to protect themselves from any external pressures that may affect them and their health.

Ali explained that this period of life is the period of rest and recuperation, which we must deal with wisely in order to make it the happiest days of their lives and not to allow anyone to disturb their peace. As adults are role models, and they must have the right place in society.

Ali added that one of the most important psychological challenges facing the elderly is the lack of close people to talk to about their problems, as usually the elderly are the ones who listen to the problems of their children and grandchildren. So they are the recipients of problems, who are expected to give advice from their experience in life, but who listens to the elderly when they need that?
