Swallowtail Lighthouse on Grand Manan might be one of New Brunswick's most iconic lighthouses, but the landmark is under threat of being lost if it doesn't undergo major restorative work within the next year.

To help raise funds, CHCO TV has teamed up with the Swallowtail Lightheeper Society to host "Tending the Light: A Telethon for Swallowtail" on Sunday, April 16, from 2pm to 5pm live on CHCO's TV channel, Facebook page and YouTube channel.

The event will feature interviews with islanders who grew up in the lightkeeper's house at Swallowtail, as well musical performances and an art auction. The event will be co-hosted by current Swallowtail lightkeeper Ken Ingersoll, Grand Manan Mayor Bonnie Morse, MLA Andrea Anderson-Mason, islander Glenn Foster, Bart Myers, and more.

Major donors like Sean Dunbar of Picaroons who named a beer after Swallowtail and Robert Griffith representing the Rotary Club of Grand Manan will also make guest appearances. Together, New Brunswickers can help save one of our most important landmarks.

Swallowtail Lightkeeper Society has already raised $160,000 towards their goal of raising $479,000 to fully restore the exterior of both Swallowtail lighthouse and the Keepers House. The Grand Opening of The Hub in St. George took place on Thursday. The Hub is a multi-purpose community space that operates at 28 Main Street, which is also home to St. Mark's Anglican Church. Rev. Mary Anne Langmaid said it was a natural evolution for the church to also become a community gathering space where people can socialize, take workshops and courses, share meals, find support, and even use free free WiFi with access to computers. The Hub also offers free space to local nonprofits and has partnered with local health and mental health groups to offer support to members of the community.

Finally, NBCC Saint Andrews has partnered with the Town of Saint Andrews and Kingsbrae Garden to build accessible planters for adults and children with mobility issues that will be installed at the Community Garden and Youth Centre this spring.
