Winnipeg's First Islamic School Has Plans for Increasing Access and Enhancing the Quality of Education

In 1996, Hijra Islamic School was founded. It was the first Islamic school in Manitoba, Canada, and currently has more than 245 kids enrolled.

Abdo Eltassi,  Board Chairman and volunteer at Al- Hijra School (AIS), was interviewed by journalist Zuhair Almusre from the U Multicultural channel. Eltassi stated that there are many new strategic plans to further develop and enhance the quality of its education and in extending its access, Al-Hijra Islamic School has established a reputation for creative learning in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, since the establishment of the institution. According to Eltassi, maintaining the quality of the education is a top priority.

He said that future generations of Canadian Muslims could receive their education and develop their character at Al-Hijra Islamic School. Our goal is to provide students with an excellent education while instilling Islamic principles and values in a secure and encouraging environment.

Eltassi discussed the benefits of the school and what sets it apart from other public schools in Winnipeg during the forty minutes of this episode. He continued by stating that the school now accepts students up to the ninth grade and that they have plans to offer classes up to the twelfth grade so that it would be a school for all academic levels, pre-post-secondary institutions.
