Grand Manan V Ferry Honoured with Canada Postage Stamp
The Grand Manan V, a crucial ferry operating between Grand Manan Island and the mainland in New Brunswick, is receiving a prestigious honour as it gets featured on a new series of Canada Post stamps. The V is the only Atlantic Canada ferry featured on the series of five stamps entitled "Let's Take the Ferry." This recognition not only celebrates the essential transportation link it provides but also puts it in the spotlight as a representative of the province's vital ferry system.
New Brunswick Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Richard Ames, expressed excitement about the ferry's recognition, stating, "Our provincial ferries provide critical transportation links, and for the Grand Manan V to be selected as a representative on this kind of scale is exciting. This is a great opportunity for us to highlight this important mode of travel."
The Grand Manan V, owned by the province and operated by Coastal Transport, stands as a symbol of maritime connectivity. Gregg Ryder, General Manager of Coastal Transport, expressed gratitude for the honour, saying, "This is a real honor for our company, and we appreciate the recognition. To have one of our ferries selected as one of only five from across the country, and the only one east of Quebec, is quite an accomplishment."
Operating since 1990, the Grand Manan V takes on the role of an additional summer ferry, offering three round trips daily from late June to early September. However, ferry services to Grand Manan are available year-round, facilitating the transportation of approximately 110,000 vehicles, 200,000 passengers, and millions of dollars worth of goods annually.
The selection of the Grand Manan V for this postage stamp series highlights the vessel's significance in connecting communities and ensuring the seamless movement of people and cargo. As the stamps are released, this recognition will not only bring pride to the region but also serve as a reminder of the indispensable role played by maritime transport in the province's economy and social fabric.
