Chuck and Lorraine Marr's Project Resiliency is an initiative aimed at raising awareness about mental health across Canada and providing support to high school students in need in their home city of Langley, BC. The couple embarked on a 50,000km journey across Canada to celebrate their 50th anniversary, all the while fundraising for Project Resiliency. While visiting St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Chuck and Lorraine paid a visit to CHCO-TV to share their story. The inspiration for Project Resiliency stemmed from their own experiences and the tragic loss of their son, Todd, to mental illness and substance abuse. 

The funds raised through their 50K journey will support the Project Resiliency program, which focuses on providing counseling and support to high school students from grades eight to 12. The Marrs aim to raise $50,000 to provide additional resources for the program, ensuring that students receive the support they need to navigate their difficulties and develop essential coping and life skills.

Their journey has resonated with many Canadians, as addiction and mental health touch countless lives across the country. Lorraine highlighted the significance of reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and creating an environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing their struggles. She explained, "We need to talk about these issues with our young children and youth so that they feel more comfortable about talking about it."

Throughout their journey, Chuck and Lorraine have witnessed a significant shift in the conversation surrounding mental health. Chuck mentioned, "Everybody that we talked to across this beautiful country of ours has a story....There are so many losses and so many stories out there, and it's time for us to start talking about it and reduce the stigma."

Chuck and Lorraine believe that their program can make a difference, even if it cannot help everyone. Chuck emphasizes the need for influential individuals and politicians to take notice and allocate resources towards proactive measures in schools, rather than waiting for crises to occur.

They plan to travel through New England and eventually return to Vancouver, spreading awareness and fostering conversations along the way.
